Digitization Project Archivist

Position Summary
Working closely with the Corita Art Center (CAC) Collections Manager and Web Developer, the Digitization Project Archivist (DPA) will manage a grant-funded project to begin digitizing CAC’s archival collection with the goal of collaboratively selecting materials to be made available online. The CAC archives collection includes approximately 18,000 35mm color slides (partially scanned), additional photographs, correspondence, press clippings, 3-d objects, and various ephemera related to Immaculate Heart College. The DPA will also support with general digital asset management and the design of CAC’s new collections page.

This is a 9-month, full-time, temporary position working 100% of the time on a grant-funded project. The position begins April 4th and ends no later than December 30th.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Establish, document, and implement metadata, quality control, and digital preservation workflows that conform to national and professional best standards.
• Conduct additional image post-processing and quality control of digitized slide collection.
• Oversee photography of 3-dimensional objects and conduct scanning of paper-based records.
• Conduct research on Corita Kent and Immaculate Heart College. Create and document a comprehensive controlled vocabulary to accurately identify and describe subject matter captured in slides and other archival materials. Contribute to CAC Image Reference Guide.
• Alongside the Collections Manager and IT staff, establish digital preservation policies and documentation, and perform other tasks including preparing digital files for ingest, transferring data, and performing health checks.
• Alongside the Collections Manager, research and select DAMS (Digital Assets Management System) and establish digital asset management protocols and policies.
• Create a comprehensive inventory of CAC’s digital and physical photography and audio-visual materials.
• Contribute to the design of CAC’s new collections webpage and the selection of materials to be made available online.
• Support with outreach to Immaculate Heart Community members and solicit contributions to the identification of subject matter documented in the collection.
• Alongside the Collections Manager, supervise, provide training, and assign processing tasks to interns.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience managing digitization projects within a museum, gallery, or equivalent context.
• Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles, concepts, and procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards, including Dublin Core, LCSH, AAT, and TGM.
• Demonstrated knowledge of image and digital asset management.
• Proficiency with Adobe Design Suite a must.
• Knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office 365, and FilemakerPro.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, research skills, and project planning and time management skills.
• Ability to complete projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Experience supervising interns.
• Background or interest in art history, fine arts, and the work and life of Corita Kent.

Compensation
$30-32/hr., 32 hours a week

• Physical Demands: In the work environment described below, the position requires good eye/hand coordination and working at a desk and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time. The position also requires verbal and written conversation with others, standing, climbing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting/moving objects up to 25 pounds.
• Work Environment: The majority of work will be performed at the Corita Art Center offices. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Immaculate Heart Community wants to ensure the health and safety of all workers in the workplace and therefore follows local orders, state regulations, and guidance from government agencies like the CDC, OSHA, EEOC, and local health authorities.
• Employees are required to complete a criminal background check and provide at least three work references. This position may interface with the public with all precautions and considerations to address COVID-19. The health and safety of all is our primary goal and consideration.
