Centered on the Center 2022 Presented by the Huntington Beach Art Center

Annual Open Call, Non-Juried Exhibition | JANUARY 29 – MARCH 5, 2022

The Huntington Beach Art Center quietly celebrated a quarter century of community service in 2021. In those years since the doors first opened, Centered on the Center remained a fixture. Year after year, hundreds of artists shared new artwork as the Art Center continued to grow.

Artworks of every media — experimental and traditional, substrate and style, and so much more — flowed through the Art Center’s 3000 square foot galleries every January to kick off the new year. As the word spread, so did our audience and the quality of the submitted artworks.

In 2022, we invite you, our treasured community of artists to join us again, or perhaps for the first time, in this annual exhibition. The salon-style installation limits participation to the first 200 hundred artists to register. Artworks are installed by our expert staff to give each work a featured spot within the display.

We encourage you to get started early and reach out with any questions. HBAC staff are available for submission consultations. The HBAC website is regularly updated with the most current information and forms.

ELIGIBILITY Participation is open to 200 artists, 18 years or older. Online submission packet required for entry. Local, regional, and national artists are invited to participate.

GUIDELINES Artwork must be original print, drawing or painting, sculpture, photography, or video installations. Artists are limited to two submissions of original artwork completed in the last two years (2020-2022). SUBMISSIONS & RESERVATIONS Online submission and delivery reservations open Tuesday, December 7 at 9am for Artists to schedule low contact drop-off appointments at the Art Center on January 7, 8 and 10. The reservation form will close when 200 artists have registered. The Art Center staff strongly encourages early registration to participate in the exhibition.

GALLERY INSTALLATION & ONLINE EXHIBITION The 2022 installment of Centered on the Center will be displayed in the HBAC galleries and presented in a virtual gallery on the Art Center’s website.

FEES $20 for one artwork | $30 for two artworks Payment is due at the time of delivery. The Art Center accepts cash, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover) payments or checks payable to the City of Huntington Beach. Participation fees support HBAC exhibition programming excellence.
