SUMMARY

Modern art Services and Nancy Harrell announce a Request for Qualifications to identify qualified artists to develop a site-specific artwork to serve as a prominent welcoming feature in the lobby area of a health care facility.

The RFQ is the first phase of a three phased process concluding with the installation of a single art object. Up to three artists will be selected from the RFQ and be given a stipend of $1,500 to develop their art concept. Of the concepts, one artist will be selected to move forward with fabrication and installation.

ART OPPORTUNITY

The commissioned piece will be the primary art feature on the main lobby level of the building. It will be installed behind the entry reception desk and should provide a warm and inviting feeling. Some amount of visual transparency in the artwork as well as warm metal elements are strongly desired for the commission.

BUDGET DESCRIPTION

Up to three finalists will be selected and asked to create a preliminary design. Each will be provided with a stipend of $1,500. Only one artist and their design will be chosen to move forward and awarded a comprehensive contract ranging from $45,000 – $75,000 to cover the monumental artwork and all costs associated such as artist fee, fabrication, transportation, insurance, installation etc.

SELECTION PROCESS

A selection committee composed of staff from the commissioning party along with local art professionals, will review submissions and select up to three artists taking into consideration the artists professional experience, quality of work, artistic vision, originality in past works and demonstrated ability to work on projects of similar scale and budget delivered in a timely manner. Additional consideration will be given to artists with a connection to Southern California or Orange County.
