Outreach & Engagement Coordinator/Manager

Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco (also known as Chinese Culture Center or CCC) is seeking an Outreach & Engagement Coordinator/Manager, a community-minded individual who is committed to social justice, community building and elevating underserved voices through the arts. 

The Outreach & Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging programs to reach the Chinatown neighborhood and broader community, including outreach to community groups, schools and visitors. 

The ideal candidate has a strong passion for CCC’s mission, creating access to the arts, outcome-driven, strong initiative and independence, with the ability to collaborate with a team. This position requires strong bilingual communications and ability to develop interpersonal relationships with community contacts and members. This position reports to the Management and Development Director.

Engagement and Program Development 80%

1. Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Develop and implement an outreach plan to target community members, youth and seniors by developing and leading ongoing programs in relation to CCC’s current exhibitions and projects to community members and groups, such as workshops, talks and art activities

2. Program Implementation

  • Develop and lead community engagement programs that are accessible to Chinatown residents, families, youth and seniors
  • Lead and support ongoing engagement tours of Chinatown and gallery to groups, individuals and partners. Support Operations & Engagement Associate on coordinating incoming tours and all aspects involved, including handling inquiries, bookings, scheduling, managing payments, surveys and internal team communications as needed
  • Identify needs in arts within the community and develop strategies for CCC to better serve our communities
  • Evaluate programming operations through proactively soliciting feedback from visitors, partners and stakeholders to improve engaging experiences and alignment with mission and program priorities
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing outreach list of community contacts and partners
  • Manage a budget, program logistics, meet deadlines and be able to prioritize multiple and simultaneous programs and projects at various levels of development.
  • Be able to meet engagement goals, and evaluate outreach & engagement strategies according to best practices.
  • Be an ambassador to promote CCC’s mission and vision, including but not limited to: presentations, table at events, participate in panels, network, engaging with partners at other events, and others
  • Collaborate with the art and programs team to ensure visual art exhibitions and projects are accessible and engaging to the community
  • Collaborate closely with Curator and programs team to meet engagement goals for 2021-2022 initiative, Youth Rising, a youth arts fellowship

3. Communications

  • Keep programming information up-to-date on communications channels – website, social media, partner communications
  • Collaborate with communications team to promote community engagement via news stories, social media, annual booklet 

4. Revenue & Fundraising

  • Collaborate with Development team to develop strategies and raise support for engagement programming, such as hosting individual donors, corporate sponsors, hosting contemporaries campaigns, and provide necessary materials 
  • Meet revenue and fundraising goals
  • Support fundraising efforts and events

5. Reporting and Record-keeping

  • Maintain and create excellent records of engagement programs – collecting and archiving qualitative and quantitative data, such as narratives, photo/video documentation, survey data, data collection of numbers, revenue, names of community partners, outreach outcomes
  • Provide evaluation and program metrics, based on funding requirements
    Submit reporting for grants compliance, donor development, Cultural Data Project, board meetings, and reporting out for team meetings.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned

Special Events & Festival Coordination 20%

CCC hosts outdoor community-based events and festivals, specifically two annual community-based festivals in Chinatown.

1. Oversee events team to ensure CCC’s mission and engagement goals are met. 

2. Be able to manage planning leading up to and day of event logistics, working with event planning and various contractors, CCC team, artists and performers, vendors and volunteers to produce event. Planning process includes:

  • Obtaining required permits
  • Curating lineup of artists and interactive activities
  • Working with Communications team on marketing and design efforts
  • Coordinating with vendors for festival setup – stage, tables, chairs, tents and audio needs
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Tracking finances to fit allotted budget
  • Serve as a liaison and ambassador to the Chinatown community

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art & humanities or a professional degree
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in nonprofit setting working with community, outreach & engagement, or program development and implementation.
  • Strong passion and commitment to CCC’s mission, arts and community advocacy.
  • Strong initiative, ability to work in a self-directed manner and in a team setting.
  • Strong communications: writing, interpersonal relationships, public speaking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Google Suite, Zoom.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, attention to detail
  • Familiarity or experience working in a community-based or arts organization is preferred.
  • Fluency in Cantonese and English is required.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, Tuesday-Saturday. Selected candidate will need to come into the office and lead programs in person. Some evenings and off hours from normally scheduled hours will be required to accommodate special events and programming.Competitive salary, 401K, health benefits, and great team environment.
