The City of Davis Arts & Cultural Affairs Program (ACA) supports community-based arts programs, cultural opportunities, and education initiatives that foster excellence, diversity, and vitality in the arts. The ACA commissions and acquires public art and provides support to community groups in presenting innovative arts programming to residents, including community theater, public murals, dance events, poetry readings, and public art. In 1973, Davis passed an ordinance requiring 1% from all Capital Improvement Projects be placed in a fund to launch a public art program to enhance the quality of life for Davis residents. The Municipal Art Fund was established, and is used to administer the City’s Art in Public Places Program; commissioning and acquiring close to 60 works of public art in the City’s collection.
