The mission of the PF Bresee Foundation (“Bresee”) is to battle poverty by empowering youth and families in Los Angeles with the skills, resources, and relationships necessary to thrive. Founded in 1982, Bresee was created by community leaders to alleviate systemic disadvantages faced by local residents. Bresee began as a grassroots, drop-in tutoring program, with the simple aim of keeping local youth off the streets and away from gang activity after school. Bresee continued to adapt to the needs of the local community by expanding its after-school youth development offerings, and by becoming a lead provider for the City of LA’s FamilySource Center (FSC) and Gang Prevention and Youth Development (GRYD) programs. Bresee now serves over 3,000 unduplicated individuals per year, including 1,000+ youth and 2,000+ adults through its comprehensive programs to improve local residents’ socio-economic mobility and overall wellbeing.
