SACRAMENTO – The National Endowment for the Arts announced its second round of funding for the 2017 fiscal year today. Federal funds in the amount of $5,326,700 will benefit 162 grantees across the state of California, including $1,142,700 in support of its partnership with the California Arts Council.

Arts activities directly funded by the NEA are as diverse as the places that foster them. A “pirate ship” installation in Redwood City, Native basketweaving mentorships in Woodland, and a public radio broadcast project in Fresno are just a few examples included among the California projects.

Through its partnership agreement with the California Arts Council, the NEA translates national leadership into local and regional benefit. Together, state and U.S. jurisdiction art agencies receive 40 percent of the NEA’s grantmaking funds each year to support their programs and leverage state funding.

“The arts are all around us, enhancing our lives in ways both subtle and obvious, expected and unexpected,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Supporting projects like the ones in California offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day.”
