Project Description

ShadowLight Productions was founded in 1972 by theatre artist, filmmaker, and shadow master, Larry Reed, to nurture indigenous shadow theatre traditions and to explore and expand the possibilities of the shadow theatre medium by creating innovative interdisciplinary, multicultural works. The company’s mission is to expose the general public to shadow theatre and other art forms. The means of providing such exposure includes but are not limited to live performances, educational programming, film and other media.

With each production, ShadowLight aspires to establish shadow theatre as a cultural and educational diplomacy tool. ShadowLight continues to increase emphasis on community-relations by reflecting the diversity of SF Bay Area in cultural specific works such as Coyote’s Journey (Native American), Monkey King at Spider Cave (Chinese), and Ghosts of the River (Latino), and by providing live performances and hands-on workshops to underserved youth and adults in the community.
