The Young Women’s Freedom Center (formerly the Center for Young Women’s Development) was founded in 1993. Our mission is to empower and inspire young women who have been involved with the juvenile justice system and/or the underground street economy to create positive change in their lives and communities. We seek to untangle the web of social services, system involvement, and incarceration that ensnares poor women of color and prevents them from accessing opportunity and living free.
