Description

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a motivated, experienced, and creative professional for the position of full-time, in-house Graphic Designer. A member of the Communications and Marketing department, the Graphic Designer will work under the general supervision of the Graphic Design and Web Manager to create design solutions—both print and digital—that define the Skirball’s visual brand and supports its communications and marketing strategies.

Responsibilities:

Create graphic design for a wide range of communications and marketing materials to promote the Skirball’s exhibitions, programs, and institutional initiatives to general and target audiences. Materials include print ads, flyers, brochures, postcards, general Skirball branded materials, invitations, signage, and large-format graphics, plus a variety of digital media such as banner ads and social media images. 
Make updates within existing templates for social media, video slides, e-blasts, digital signage, and wayfinding. 
Maintain consistency in visual brand identity and uphold the Skirball’s design style guide. 
Collaborate closely with colleagues within the Communications and Marketing team and across the institution. 
Update and create graphics for the Skirball website using its Drupal content management system, upholding design aesthetic appropriate for Skirball audiences. 
Deliver production-ready files to media partners and print vendors, ensuring that all specifications and deadlines are met. Oversee press checks and quality control as needed. 
Direct photography and videography shoots as needed. 
Commitment to grow graphic design knowledge through participation in workshops, further education, or reading/researching professional literature. Attend professional development conferences when possible. 
Perform all duties in accordance with the Skirball’s established mission and values.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and characteristics: 

A track record designing effective communications and marketing materials created in accordance with an institutional visual brand identity.  
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs and expert knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (Mac platform). 
Strong understanding of best practices relating to page layout design, typography, and photo manipulation for both print and digital usage. 
Knowledge of offset and digital print production. 
Experience in website maintenance and design. Drupal knowledge a plus. 
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. 
Positive, energetic, and cooperative work ethic. Self-starter approach to problem solving and enthusiasm in completing both simple and high-profile projects equally. 
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a sincere commitment to establishing productive relationships, both within and beyond the institution. 
Superb organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong QA skills. 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in graphic design with 3+ years professional experience as a print and digital designer. 
A keen appreciation for and understanding of the Skirball Cultural Center’s mission.
This position will start remotely and ultimately transition back to on-site work.  Full-time, permanent, non-exempt position, salary range $24-27 per hour.
