Assistant Catering Manager, Hospitality and Private Events


The Hospitality and Private Events department of the Skirball Cultural Center seeks a capable, conscientious Assistant Catering Manager. Reporting to the Senior Catering Manager, the Assistant Catering Manager will be responsible for assisting in overseeing catering operations through the development and completion of all events.



Organizes day of event needs with the event coordinator; establishes and implements day of event schedules
Plans, organizes, and assigns employee responsibilities to meet the needs of clients
Ensures service quality and standards
Provides goods and services during events, ensuring smooth efficient operations
Provides on-site supervision and coordination during events and functions, resolving problems quickly and efficiently
Acts as liaison between clients and Skirball employees prior to and during event
Represents the Skirball to the public during events
Acts as liaison between Skirball employees and catering employees including security, kitchen, porters, and others
Ensures all food and service activities comply with banquet event orders (BEOs), health and fire code requirements, and Jewish dietary laws as requested
Receives BEOs and determines proper staffing
Schedules on-call employees to for events as needed
·       Produce work reports for hourly employees using Time America to share with payroll administrator

·       Coordinate with Senior Catering Manager to maintain inventory supplies and proper equipment; ensure stock areas for the catering team are maintained in a neat, efficient, and orderly manner; and report ordering needs to Senior Catering Manager

Supervises performance of regular and on-call employees; recommends disciplinary action when needed
·       Supports Senior Catering Manager in providing on-the-job training to ensure employees provide appropriate service; follows up to ensure continued compliance

·       Assist Senior Catering Manager with petty cash for cash bars, carts, and catering needs; follows procedures for balancing cash and submitting reports as scheduled

·       Develops and maintains professional and managerial skills through participation in workshops/conferences, further education, and reading/researching professional literature


Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes


Computer skills to include Word, Excel, and event planning software; previous experience with Ungerboeck and Staffmate preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Must be able to work independently, as a team player, and cross-functionally with all other Skirball departments
Must be able to work flexible hours which will include evenings and weekends
Maintain a Food Handler’s Certificate
