Junior Advancement Associate, Membership


The Junior Advancement Associate, Membership is responsible for providing a high level of hospitality to members, overseeing membership’s day-to-day operations, identifying opportunities for improving member acquisition and renewal processes, producing Advancement events, and developing effective membership-related communications. Reporting to the Senior Advancement Associate, Philanthropic Programs, the position plays a key role in the success of MOCA’s membership program, ranging in gifts from $30 to $10,000.


Essential Functions:


  • Build relationships through written and in-person communication with members.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for members. Respond promptly to membership inquiries in an efficient and friendly manner.

Member Operations 

  • Develop and advise on areas to increase membership revenue. Report monthly revenue figures to the Deputy Director, Advancement and the Senior Advancement Associate, Philanthropic Programs.
  • Create and implement membership training and incentives for front of house staff in order to sell and promote memberships.
  • Track membership expenses.


  • In partnership with the Associate Director, Donor Events and Programs, responsible for production, execution and budget of all member events, including openings, dinners, and off-site events.
  • Hire and supervise outside vendors, including caterers, rental companies, florists, and entertainment.
  • Oversee event RSVPs and check-in, including training and managing support staff.
  • Work closely and coordinate with all appropriate Museum departments, surrounding businesses, and government agencies in preparation for events.
  • Interface with all agencies that have jurisdiction to ensure that events comply with city regulations.


  • Develop and implement member acquisition campaigns, gift membership campaigns, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Report campaign results to the Deputy Director, Advancement and Sr. Advancement Associate, Philanthropic Programs
  • Manage all membership communications, including digital and printed welcome packages, renewal letters, invitations, and newsletters.
  • Oversee the membership gift acknowledgement process.

  • Problem-solving, research, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Proven event management expertise with the ability to take an event from conception through completion. Project management skills are a plus.
  • Solid relationship-building skills and ability to interface with external constituents.
  • Proficiency in Google Cloud Services, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, CRM Database such as Altru and Raiser’s Edge
  • Excellent social skills required.
  • Ability to work independently while being an integral member of a high-functioning team.
  • Experience working in or overseeing membership and annual giving programs.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising; ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Frontline experience in individual gift fundraising and in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of gifts up to $10,000.
  • General knowledge and interest in contemporary art..
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising and event experience, preferably in a non-profit arts organization.
    Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Communications, English, Fundraising, or a related field required.
  • Weekend and evening work required.


Salary Range: $62,500 to $66,500 annually

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required. Heavy usage of computers and phones required.
