The Programs Coordinator is a dynamic instructor with a passion for supporting students with their writing. The core of our work is direct service and this position will lead writing workshops in schools and support programming at our Tenderloin Center approximately 10-14 hours per week. The ideal candidate is excited to work closely with teachers and school partners, loves to teach, is energized by working with youth of all ages, and enjoys collaborating with team members to plan and execute impactful student programming.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Programs Coordinator reports to the Tenderloin Programs Manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Programs Coordination and Support

• Lead 7-10 hour-long writing sessions per week; provide direct instruction and support to students in the development of their writing and during tutoring sessions; support additional Tenderloin Programs as needed
• In collaboration with the Programs Manager, write engaging, standards-based, culturally-responsive curriculum
  Participate in planning meetings with teachers to align lessons, collaborate to ensure students’ success, and identify opportunities for family engagement; communicate with teacher partners and caregivers in a timely, responsive, and effective manner; provide translation when applicable 
• In collaboration with the Programs Manager and Programs Director, determine program priorities and track progress towards goals and objectives; evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved methods for program delivery
• Coordinate and support the activities of interns, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members; recruit, train, support, engage, and celebrate tutors to promote continued engagement and improved effectiveness
• Track student and volunteer data using Salesforce and the Contract Management System of the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Families; support grant reporting and program evaluation as needed
• Support and/or coordinate student publications and related release parties; duties may include transcription, translation, copyediting, and event logistics
• Serve as instructor for summer programming
• Provide support to other 826 Valencia programs as needed, including occasional weekend and evening events

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in staff and departmental meetings, internal committees on diversity, equity and inclusion, the annual 826 National conference, anti-racism trainings, other professional development activities, and performance appraisal systems
• Proactively raise issues with the Supervisor to prioritize tasks and implement solutions; meet all deadlines and maintain accurate timesheets
• Work collaboratively with all staff members to ensure robust programming
• All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of two years working with under-resourced youth (preferred)
• Fully bilingual in English and either Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese languages (preferred)
• Able to regularly travel to Tenderloin Community Elementary School, located half a mile away from the Tenderloin Center
• Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and macOS
• Able to complete a background check and Tuberculosis screening. We will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records for employment, pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, but will not hire anyone with a record that includes a conviction of a serious or violent felony, sexual offense, or controlled substance offense
• Able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination including booster doses when available, or participate in an interactive process for accommodations. Able to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines

OTHER DETAILS

This non-exempt, salaried, full-time role (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is based at the Tenderloin Center, 180 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco, with substantial time working on site and in person, including at nearby schools. The work schedule is subject to change based on programmatic needs, and working some evenings and weekends may be required. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area, and able to work in an open-office environment where there may be substantial ambient noise and overheard conversations.

COMPENSATION

• $50,000 to $55,000 annual salary
• Paid Time Off: 15 Vacation days per year (increases to 20 days after two years), 9 wellness days per year, 13 holidays, and winter office closure. Additional COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave available through September 30, 2022
