Director of Development
Japanese American National Museum

Do you believe in social justice and want to enhance cultural diversity by helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals? The Japanese American National Museum is looking for a dynamic director of development to lead its fundraising team to secure the financial resources necessary to advance the mission of the Museum, especially during this challenging political environment. With a new president and chief executive officer, the Museum is dedicated to educating people about the experiences of Japanese Americans, especially during World War II, and positioned to play a role in preventing the incarceration of another group based on race from happening again.                                                                   

The Director of Development is a key member of the department staff leadership team. DOD will help plan and lead all fundraising programs such as individual giving, institutional giving, special events, membership, donor relations, and all other aspects of fundraising to advance the mission of the Museum. In particular, the DOD is directly responsible for major giving. Oversees daily operations of Development department and leads the team to meet revenue goals. Works closely with VP of External Relations to ensure strong inter-and intra- department communication and strategic planning.

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university/college in public administration, humanities or related field, Advanced degree is preferred.At least five years of successful management and fundraising experience, particularly in  securing major gifts and the management of development operations with increasing responsibility. Must have ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, volunteers, consultants and Board members with diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with both local and national Japanese American/Asian American community organizations, history, culture, current events and politics.  Experience in Altru or similar fundraising/donor software.
