Audio/Media Technician
Southern California Institute of Architecture

The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) is seeking a full-time Audio/Media Technician to be a part of a diverse community of 500 students, 80+ faculty and 50 staff. SCI-Arc brings together accomplished architectural professionals who encourage creativity, share knowledge, and foster independence by focusing on the individual learning experience.


Reporting to the SCI-Arc Channel Director/Media Manager, the Audio/Media Technician will support the school’s Media Department and trouble-shoot audio concerns for SCI-Arc’s Public Programs, live events and video production. The position will also provide general technical assistance for videography, live-streaming, editorial, and video/computer display concerns. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mic (lavalier, handheld wireless, podium, etc.), record and mix subjects for live event and video production environments
  • Set up, operate and maintain logistics for P.A.’s, amplifiers and digital/analog sound systems
  • Set up video display output and projection concerns across all platforms including both Apple and PC
  • Operate prosumer Canon recording devices and their armatures for live events and video productions
  • Operate and maintain various GoPro and DSLR recording scenarios
  • Ingest, organize and edit media from a multitude of delivery systems for upload to the video hosting sites
  • General equipment and media trouble-shooting
  • General maintenance of Media Department office and A/V equipment including equipment checkout and tutorials
  • Aid in the supervision of student workers, schedule creation and event organization/development
  • Other tasks, as assigned 


  • 3 years of relevant experience and/or training in audio engineering and video production; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Keen operational knowledge of lavalier microphone, mounting, hiding, frequencies and potential issues
  • Operational knowledge of digital and analog audio mixing and recording devices, including boom handling
  • Knowledge of PC and MAC platforms
  • Proficient using prosumer Canon video cameras, DSLR cameras and GoPro cameras
  • Proficient using either Logic or Pro Tools mixing programs and both Final Cut Pro and Premier plus color correction
  • Detail oriented, self-starter with strong interpersonal skills
