Who You Are

  • Have prior experience in establishing creative environments in which art is explored, discovered, and observed both in and out of the classroom
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Art or Art Education, with an outstanding record of academic achievement and leadership
  • A passion for art and learning

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead twice weekly Kindergarten and 1st grade art classes (approx. 25 students per class)
  • Build a classroom culture in which students love art
  • Engage students in the creative process and cultivate their talents, while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history
  • Collaborate with other teachers to build a world-class art program, while cultivating a school environment that prioritizes aesthetics and makes learning visible to the community
  • Implement a sequential curriculum that can be built upon in subsequent years
  • Implement a clear classroom management strategy that holds kids accountable for their actions while offering multiple opportunities to feel successful and valued
  • Prepare students for 2-4 “Showcases” per year
  • Lead Explorations sessions as appropriate

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in visual art (or equivalent)
  • 1-3 years minimum experience working in educational setting with young children
  • Experience working with different types of communities
  • Involvement in Sacramento art scene preferred

4-6 hours per week during the 2017-18 academic year

The compensation for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience.
