Volunteer Artist Mentor
Venice Arts

Venice Arts is always interested in finding qualified volunteers who can assist with our youth programs. Professionals and college students with background qualifications in the following may apply: photography, film/video, animation, multimedia and/or visual arts. Many of our mentors use volunteering as a way to gain teaching experience in their field. Others simply want to inspire young people to hone their craft. Volunteers will be trained by Venice Arts staff, are offered professional development workshops, and given artist mentor assignments in our Venice programs and/or at off-site partner locations.

About Venice Arts 
Venice Arts is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to ignite youths’ imagination, mentor their creativity, and expand their sense of possibility through high quality, accessible media–based arts education programs. Venice Arts also serves as a catalyst for people of all ages, living in low–income or underrepresented communities, to create and share personal and community stories through photography, film, multi–media and visual arts.   

Background in photography, filmmaking, animation, multimedia or visual artist working with media. Experience working with youth is preferred, but not necessary. 

Job Dates:
We are currently looking for Volunteer Artist Mentors for our Summer Camp which will take place from June 26, 2017 - July 28, 2017. Classes meet in our space Monday through Friday for 3 hours either 9am-12pm (younger kids classes) or 2pm-5pm (teen classes). We are flexible with schedules. A team comprised of a paid Lead Artist, with background and experience in education, who works cooperatively with volunteer artist mentors to teach the workshops. 

Volunteer artist mentors are asked to arrive to their assigned workshop at least 30 minutes early and stay after class for 15-30 minutes to work with the Lead Artist, review the lesson plan, and prepare for that day’s class. Volunteers are welcomed, and encouraged, to prepare and lead lessons, and present their own work, when appropriate.
