Jason Jong joins the Arts Council as Arts Program Specialist
Experience includes public sector arts grantmaking, cultural arts production, music performance, business development, and nonprofit leadership
The California Arts Council is pleased to welcome its newest staff member, Arts Program Specialist Jason Jong.
A Sacramento native, Jason previously served more than a decade with the City of Oakland, Cultural Funding Program, Cultural Arts & Marketing Division, and Oakland Fund for Children and Youth where he played key roles in program design, implementation, policy development, and marketing. He also served as chair of the Richmond Arts & Culture Commission, member of the Asian Pacific Advisory Council for the Oakland Museum of California, staff and consultant to the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, and performed as percussionist and production staff with a number of Bay Area world music and dance ensembles.
Returning to Sacramento three years ago, Jason was recruited to become COO and Culture Officer of Capsity, an innovative coworking space and arts gallery. He was responsible for developing partnerships and cultivating internal and external relationships for the mission-driven California Benefit Corporation.
Jason is active in local arts, social service, and civic initiatives, including serving as the executive producer of the Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival, signature event of the Sacramento Asian Pacific Cultural Village, and production manager for Mandarins Entertainment and Sacramento Kings Corps.
Also a proud father of three dynamic children, he has a personal interest in seeing that new generations of Californians grow up in a society where diverse forms of arts and creativity are appreciated and experienced as physical, mental and spiritual necessities in the lives of all people.
Jason's broad range of experiences as funding agency staff, grant writer, performer, presenter, curator, and civic arts leader will be put to good use at a time of agency transitions and promising new directions.
"I'm thrilled to be joining a stellar team whose immense contributions to the quality of our cultural life in California are well-known," he said. "It is with great humility, respect and admiration for the work of prior and current staff that I embrace this new role."
