Arts Council Fund at almost $155,000
July figures from the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) show that contributions to the "Arts Council Fund" through state income tax returns now stand at $154,675 with 15,659 donations by state tax filers taking the proactive stance of arts supporters. The California Arts Council hopes and expects to see an uptick when the October 17th late filing deadline passes. We enthusiastically thank those 15,659 Californians who have contributed to advance the arts in California, and thank all the arts organizations that have helped the California Arts Council promote this new funding source in our first year of participation.
Background: The Arts Council was included on the 2010 "Voluntary Contribution" portion of the FTB tax return after the passage in 2010 of SB 1076 by Senator Curren Price. The FTB's 2010 tax return form allows California taxpayers to contribute part of their personal income tax refund to the California Arts Council and its arts programs for children and communities. Individuals may make tax-deductible contributions in amounts of $1 or more. Funds will be used to advance the arts and arts education, with no funding going to administrative expenses.
