California Arts Council Director's Statement on Department of Finance Audit Report

Sacramento -

Craig Watson, Director of the California Arts Council, made the following statement in response to the review of the Graphic Design License Plate (also known as the Arts Plate) Account by the Department of Finance:

"We are pleased that the audit unit of the Department of Finance determined that the California Arts Council is generally in compliance with the uses and restrictions as outlined in the California Vehicle Code regarding the Arts Plate. We will follow the accounting changes and other recommendations by staff at the Department of Finance."

The review of the Graphic Design License Plate Account noted that over 80% of all special license plate fees received by the Arts Council were expended on grants for arts education and local arts programs. The Arts Council provides funding for arts during the school day and in after-school programs, for local arts agencies statewide, local arts in underserved communities, and for programs designed to strengthen the state's arts and creative economy.
