New Statewide & Regional Creative Economy Resources

Last week, the Joint Committee on the Arts, chaired by Senator Ben Allen, explored the interwoven role of creativity and innovation as a driving force of California's economy in diverse industry sectors in regions across the state. During the hearing, the latest statewide data in the 2015 Otis Report on the Creative Economy of California was presented. Among many key facts, the report revealed that California's creative workforce contributes $374 billion to California’s gross product, a number that continues to rise every year.

Now in its third year, the Otis Report on the Creative Economy of California features an expansion highlighting local creative industries via eight regional snapshots, developed with support from the California Arts Council. The regions include: Bay Area, Capital Region, Central Coast, Inland Empire, Central Valley, San Diego-Imperial Valley, Los Angeles-Orange County, and Upstate California.

The hearing lineup included presenters from Otis College of Art and Design, Center for Cultural Innovation, Land Art Generator Initiative, Mattel, Microsoft, Silicon Valley Creates, UCLA, & more. Here's a handy video playlist of the inspiring and insightful hearing testimonies.
