Craig Watson Appointed Director of the California Arts Council

Malissa Feruzzi Shriver, Chair, California Arts Council, today announced the appointment of Craig Watson as the new Director for the state agency. Watson's appointment represents the first time in the history of the state agency that the Director has been hired directly by the Council rather than by appointment of the Governor. Watson is currently the Executive Director of the Arts Council for Long Beach, and will start with the California Arts Council on August 15, 2011.

New ArtWorks! story: Sierra Summer Festival of the Performing Arts

The Sierra Summer Festival of Performing Arts is surrounded by vast acres of forest bordered by the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness Areas, 32 miles southeast of Yosemite National Park's eastern entrance, and is located 7880 feet high in the Eastern Sierra Mountains of California. Though remote in location, the Festival has been able to double its audience in the past year gaining audience from Los Angeles and Reno.

Californians Receive Prestigious Awards from Americans for the Arts

Californians have made their mark on the artistic landscape in recent years, as noted by Americans for the Arts and related groups at the organization's annual conference in June, where the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and Libby Maynard of The Ink People Center for the Arts in Eureka received awards.
